CLEVELAND, OH – Wednesday is the one-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, which Congresswoman Shontel Brown voted for and which was signed into law by President Biden on August 16, 2022.

On Wednesday, Congresswoman Brown will hold a virtual roundtable with officials and advocates to mark the one-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, and the law’s benefits for seniors. The roundtable will include speakers from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, The American Association of Retired People (AARP), the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging, and other stakeholders.

“The Inflation Reduction Act is lowering prescription drug costs, lowering health care costs, and lowering energy costs – and since the law was enacted, the rate of inflation has decreased. President Biden and House Democrats heard from the American people about what rising costs were doing to their well-being and we didn’t just talk, we acted. I’m proud to have voted for the Inflation Reduction Act and will continue fighting for lower costs and more opportunities for Northeast Ohio,” said Congresswoman Brown.

Key Features of the Inflation Reduction Act for Seniors:

  • $35 per month cap on insulin costs for people on Medicare, saving 4,100 Medicare beneficiaries in our District who use insulin an average of $470 annually compared to 2020 prices
  • Free recommended preventative vaccines, including shingles and Tdap, for people on Medicare
  • $2,000 out-of-pocket cap for Medicare prescription drug prices beginning in 2025
  • Lower prices starting in 2026 for selected drugs through Medicare negotiations with drug companies
  • More affordable health care coverage for the estimated 19,000 people signed up for a marketplace plan in Ohio's 11th District.
